✔️ How does Zocort 1% Cream work?

Zocort Cream works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers (responsible for inflammation and allergies) in the body which results in providing relief from eczema, dermatitis, and insect bite reactions in affected individuals.

✔️ Side Effects of Zocort 1% Cream

Common side effects include:

• Application site reactions (burning, irritation, itching, and redness)
• Skin atrophy
• Striae (stretch marks)
• Acne-like lesions
• Perioral dermatitis
• Folliculitis
• Itching
• Pigmentation changes
• HPA axis suppression with prolonged use of higher potency

✔️ Quick Suggestions:

• Apply as a thin film to the affected areas 2-3 times daily, or as advised.
• Avoid covering the treated area with airtight dressings.
• Discontinue use and consult a doctor if the skin condition does not improve within 2 weeks.
• Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctors before use.
• Avoid using in the diaper area unless directed by a physician.

✔️ Dosage

Adults: Apply a thin film to the affected area 2-3 times daily. 

Children:

• For children older than 3 months, apply to the affected area every 12 hours.
• Safety and efficacy are not established for children younger than 3 months.

✔️ How to Use Zocort 1% Cream

1. Apply Zocort externally as advised by your doctor.
   • Clean and dry the affected area before applying.
   • Apply a thin layer of the cream evenly.
   • Wash your hands after application unless the treatment is for your hands.
2. Use it two or three times daily or as directed by your doctor.
   • Avoid open wounds or damaged skin.
   • Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings unless advised by a doctor.
   • Avoid contact with eyes, nose, or mouth. In case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with water.
3. Use the cream for the duration recommended by your doctor. Do not use it more often or for longer than advised.

• Use with caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, the elderly, and those on prolonged therapy.

✔️ Interactions

• Thiazides: May enhance hyperglycemia and hypokalemia caused by corticosteroids.
• NSAIDs: Increased risk of peptic ulcers or GI bleeding.
• Anticoagulants: Altered response; monitor dosage.
• Antidiabetics and Antihypertensives: Dosage adjustments may be necessary.
• Salicylates and Antimuscarinic Agents: Decreased serum concentrations.
• Ethanol: This may enhance gastric mucosal irritation.
• Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Primidone, Barbiturates, Rifampicin: Reduced efficacy of Zocort.
• Ciclosporin: Increased plasma concentrations of both drugs.
• Estrogens/Oral Contraceptives: Enhanced effects of Zocort.

✔️ Contraindications

• Viral, fungal, tubercular, or syphilitic skin lesions
• Bacterial infections unless combined with appropriate chemotherapy

✔️ Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
• Lactation: Exercise caution as excretion in milk is unknown.

✔️ Precautions & Warnings

• Inform your doctor if you are allergic to hydrocortisone or any other medications.
• If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, recently vaccinated, or planning to get vaccinated, let your doctor know before taking hydrocortisone.
• Some people may experience mood changes, confusion, memory loss, anxiety, sleep problems, or hallucinations.
• If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your doctor immediately.
• Avoid using hydrocortisone if you have an infection, and consult your doctor if you develop a new infection while on treatment.
